FUN DAYS AT LIBERTY
Mother's Day Plant Sale
Every year the PTA hosts a plant sale in the days leading up to Mother’s Day. There is always a large selection of plants in all different sizes and colors, along with fun decorative planters. The sale is held in the cafeteria during the student lunch times and the PTA works hard to keep the prices low with offerings starting as low as $1. The children are so excited to buy plants for their mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and even dads.
Garden Planting & Caring
Our school has a beautiful garden space that with nurturing from the PTA has grown triple the size in the past two years. All students participate in the planting and caring for the garden items. During the school year all students wisit the garden with their classes and plant all kinds of herbs, fruits, and veggies. Plants grown include: corn, squash, dill, strawberries, mint, kale, lettuce, garlic, and more. The students have the option to taste and smell everything that has been grown. They learn to care for the seeds they planted and watch them grow into yummy food they can enjoy.
Our own little marathon! During their class gym time, all students run/walk around a track created on the upper field by the gym teachers. Music is played and they have a lot of fun doing laps, getting spritzed with water, joining in fun dances, and going at their own pace (some teachers join in, too)! The Fun Run is a PTA fundraiser which helps pay for every student at school to go on field trips, attend cultural arts assemblies, and much more. Donations to the Fun Run come with no strings attached for students—there is no lap or distance requirement. All students participate regardless of donation. This is probably one of the most fun days for the students. The faces of the kids the ENTIRE day is PRICELESS!!!! We hope you will join us for our next Fun Run! There’s always plenty of watermelon!
The Jump-a-Thon takes place at school during each child’s gym special over the course of two consecutive days. The event is all about letting the kids have fun while jumping rope. Run by the school gym teachers (jumping rope fits into the physical education curriculum), each group of students learns appropriate grade level stages of jumping rope from the basics all the way to Double Dutch-style. This PTA fundraiser is always a favorite for the kids and the proceeds are put toward the ongoing Playground renovation. All kids participate, and donations are accepted in any amount There are no strings attached (like number of jumps).
Family Game Night
Come out and join other Liberty families as well as teachers and staff for a night of family Bingo. The PTA hosts this annual event and it is always tons of fun! There are door prizes as well as prizes for each Bingo winner. There are yummy concessions for sale and all the games are called by Liberty teachers.
Liberty's Night Out
This annual event offers a fun night out for parents and staff to mingle! An adults-only evening, the event features multiple rounds of designer handbag Bingo, amazing auction items, door prizes, and a 50/50 cash raffle. The Liberty community is encouraged to bring lots of friends to this PTA fundraiser that is open to the public. So, come on out and join us and remember its BYOBA (Bring Your Own Beverages & Appetizers). Hope to see you there!
Calling all Liberty stars! All students are invited to come out and show us what they can do. From singing, to juggling, to dancing, and comedy acts, Liberty students are amazing and love to share their talents with each other. This showcase evening is run by the PTA with assistance from our music teacher Mrs. Philhower and other school staff. Students perform on stage in a supportive and encouraging environment. Everyone is a winner!
Every spring Liberty’s Physical Education Teachers along with students from Nyack High School’s Heroes & Cool Kids program host Field Day. Students attend the event during the school day. The upper field is set up for all sorts of fun games. All students participate in this school-run event.
Garden Clean Up
All Liberty families are invited to help prepare our school garden for another growing season every spring. Activities include: weeding and replenishing soil, painting garden boxes, spreading new mulch, securing groundhog fencing, general clean-up, and more. The PTA provides garden tools and gloves and brings in pizza and refreshments for all helpers. It is a really fun afternoon and the job gets done much faster when we all help!
Liberty Night at the Rockland Boulders!
All Liberty families are given the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to a select Rockland Boulders baseball game. The last couple of years it has been right around Father’s Day. This year each ticket included a baseball hat PLUS post-game fireworks! The Boulders organization donated to our PTA $4 of each Liberty ticket sold! It’s a wonderful evening of classic all-American family fun for a great cause!
Liberty’s Annual Multicultural Festival
Grab your Liberty passport at the door and journey through more than 25 countries and cultures that make up our school community! Sample flavors from around the globe! Learn about our families' customs and cultures! Delight in traditional song, dance, and fashion! This free event is one of the PTA’s most popular…be sure to bring your appetite!
LEAP (Liberty Enrichment After-School Program)
LEAP classes are super popular after-school activities held at Liberty. Each spring and fall offers an assortment of classes, each taught by Liberty teachers and staff. Past offerings have included slime, Zumba, cooking, art, cheerleading, etc. In 2018, we added a mid-season special session called LEAP Learners. LEAP Learners classes are more academic than our traditional LEAP classes. The use of no outside vendors for our classes, allows students to benefit from continued instruction from their Liberty teachers and staff. Learners classes include topics like foreign languages, coding, cursive writing, keyboarding, etc.) A favorite LEAP offering is the winter Gymnastics session taught by our physical education teachers. This course builds on what the students learn in their gym classes. All money raised from LEAP classes benefits the PTA General Fund.
Every year Liberty PTA hosts a Holiday Shop for the students. The children gain a valuable learning experience from this sale as they experience what it's like to budget money and to make thoughtful decisions while purchasing small gifts for their loved ones. Most importantly they have FUN! The Holiday Shop is set up like a small store and is located on the Liberty stage. Each class visits the shop during the school day once over the course of 3 days. It is such a rewarding experience to help these kids shop and select items for people they care about. We are constantly amazed at their generosity! The PTA is always looking for parent volunteers to assist the shoppers (especially the littlest ones) as they walk through the holiday shop. If you are able please give a bit of your time to assist the kids with their holiday gift-giving!
